Moving the BBQ contests to the Washington County Fairgrounds has really worked out. The BBQ competitors love the grass (not as hot as working on asphalt) and the 3,000 people that came out to participate in the Sam’s Club People’s Choice Award tasting on Friday night really loved the food.
A note about BBQ cookoff tasting kits for the People’s Choice Award. The cooks provided anyone with a tasting kit a sample of their wares. It’s purely a sample of succulent BBQ, not a full BBQ dinner with all the trimmings. Tasters made their way around the contest area and were entitled to BBQ from any and all of the cooking teams for as long as the food lasted.
This year, over 30 of the best BBQ teams from around the country competed in the KCBS Barbeque Cook-Off and the Arkansas State BBQ Championship cooked chicken, beef, pork and other side items.
We’ll be holding that competition again this year, once again at the Washington County Fairgrounds, both Friday night for the People’s Choice Awards, and Saturday for the KCBS Cookoff and Arkansas State BBQ Championship. And in addition, we’ll be having live music and other attractions at the Fairgrounds. Furthermore, the entire Fairgrounds is one huge beer garden, so you can enjoy a brew, eat some fabulous BBQ, and listen to free music. What a great place to spend some time!
